On May 21, 2024, Justice Dias Toffoli, of the Supreme Federal Court, annulled all procedural acts, carried out under Car Wash Operation, by the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba against businessman Marcelo Odebrecht.<\/p>\n
The executive was sentenced to 19 years and 4 months of imprisonment for corruption, money laundering, and criminal association in Car Wash Operation by the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba. Additionally, Judge S\u00e9rgio Moro imposed fines of R$ 108,809,565.00 and US$ 35,000,000.00 on Marcelo Odebrecht and other executives linked to the company who were convicted on the same occasion.<\/p>\n
The businessman later entered into a leniency agreement with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, which was revised by the Supreme Federal Court in 2020, reducing his total award to 7 years.<\/p>\n
Justice Dias Toffoli considered that the prosecutors of Car Wash Operation and former judge S\u00e9rgio Moro made constant adjustments and arrangements to make it impossible for the businessman to exercise his right to adversarial proceedings and to a full defense. Furthermore, he stated that certain prosecutors and judges ignored due process, the right to a full defense and institutional integrity to achieve their personal and political objectives, which is unacceptable in a Democratic State of Law.<\/p>\n
